Alta Schryver was born on 7 December
1900. She was the sixth child and third daughter of Frank M.
and Sara Jane Baltz Schryver. She and Alice Elisabeth were twins.
Alta was a graduate of Clayton High School and of the
House of the Good Samaritan Nursing School. She did special
nursing duty there for three years and graduated in 1920.
Following her work there, she went to New York City, where she spent a
year and a half at Columbia University working for her Bachelor of
Science Degree.
On September 1, 1926, she accepted a position as
instructress of student nurses at Troy Samaritan Hospial.
Alta died of pneumonia on Saturday, 18 December 1926
at the Troy Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York. According to her
obituary, she had been ill for about ten days and "her death
occurred on the eighth anniversary of the beginning of her nursing
career." She was 26 years old.
