John Peter (?) Shriver was born in 1799 and baptized on 20 March 1799 in Poughkeepsie, New York.  The baptismal records name his father as Peter Emerick Schryver but no mother was named.  As Elizabeth was Peter's only known wife, one would assume she is the mother. According to Schryvers & Scrivers, by Jeannette Scriver Burch,  John "was apprenticed to Robert Fulton for 7 years beginning at age 12, was Second Engineer on the Clermont at age 21.  After that he worked for the West Point Foundry until his death at age 47, (1846).  The West Point Foundry business was moved in 1838 or 39 to Cold Spring NY.  The 1850 census shows Sarah as head of the family and 10 people working in manufacturing also living in the household -- she probably ran a boarding house."

Sarah Lawson was born on 6 March 1801 in New York City.  She was the daughter of Abraham and Rachel (Fidun or Ferdon) Lawson.  She died on 24 October 1888 at Cold Spring NY, on the Hudson.  She is buried in a cemetery there.  Records show that her father was an Indian chief.

We have no records of their marriage.  They had eight (8) children.  Records show different spellings of the surname.

The children of John Peter and Sarah were part of the sixth generation of the Schryver family in America:
  Mary Seggette Shriver
  "daughter" Shriver
  Catherine Durley Shriver
  "son" Schryver
  John Peter Shriver, Jr.
  Rachel Shriver
  Richard Shepard Shriver
  William Lawson Shriver
